Theme-based Art Installations at Hyatt Regency Chennai

Art for a cause is exemplified at Hyatt Regency Chennai with theme based art installations

This truly applies for Hyatt Regency Chennai as when the owners first walked into a concrete shell with just bricks, mortar and colonies of bee hives that visual started what would become a chronicle of the pollinators, their life, their history, their influence and impact.

This tenacious lot is an embodiment of interdependence, perseverance and a profound sensibility which nurtures and nourishes nature and creates a beautiful symbiotic relation between the bee and nature. Prominent and upcoming national and international artists where brought in to create their artistic interpretation of this concept.

Today Hyatt Regency Chennai houses bespoke art by over 55 artists creating one of the largest collection of publicly displayed art installation in the country. From one of the largest ceramic sculpture in Asia to an atrium filled with depiction of this beautiful equation, here art transcends barriers to lend itself to a story one should aspire to emulate and provokes an emotion to evoke awareness about this dying breed.

Art has become a fundamental, rather than ornamental, element of hotel design. The Hyatt, Chennai, feels privileged to have commissioned the fifty five artworks installed so far, as not just decorative pieces for the aesthetic palette, but as creating a strategic dissonance that compels the guest to directly confront the environmental threats that are at hand, but which s/he chooses to ignore.

They regard the hotel itself as a complex giant lens that forces the public to discover multiple perspectives on environmental harmony and threats seen through the eyes of various artists. Nothing of this scale and this thematic relevance has been achieved in the hospitality sector as its creative contribution to the society as a whole.

To celebrate the mesmerizing collection of art and to create awareness about the art for a cause concept at Hyatt Regency Chennai , the hotel organized a first-of-its-kind bee festival – Pollinator in August 2012 which was a huge success. It was a three day festival and workshop on ” the importance of honey bees” organized at Chennai ,bringing to the public domain unprecedented efforts that are critical to the survival of a threatened eco-system and our environment.

The bee is symbolic of life and harmony as the hive works collectively not only for their sustainability but for the sustainability of all life. The art works convey this interdependence of all life and emphasizes that the destruction of one link will destroy an entire chain.

To sum up it would be apt to mention that art is no more an add-on feature for hotels but has become an integral part of the overall personality, concept, ambience and décor of the hotel.
