Marina Beach, is one of the longest beaches in the world and is popular among Chennaites and tourists alike for its golden sand and fair-like ambience in the evenings. Some beautiful buildings, such as the University of Madras, the Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, several statues of Tamil scholars and impressive sculptures dot the beach road. Chennai has a five week long music season called the Madras Music Festival which starts every December and celebrates the rich legacy of carnatic music. Held during the Tamil Margazhi season when the weather is delightfully pleasant, the festival renews Chennai’s passion for soulful carnatic music, with some of India’s most celebrated musicians performing in the festival.

Chennai has a strong theatre-going culture with The Hindu Metro Plus Theatre Fest (MPTF) a very popular annual fixture among theatre enthusiasts. The Hindu publication hosts the festival, and brings to the city both mainstream and critically acclaimed plays from around the country and overseas. It is held every year around July and August.

IIT Saarang is an immensely popular annual cultural festival conducted under the aegis of the renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, on its campus. The festival features offbeat and mainstream cultural performances by reputed artists over a five day period in January.

Chennai has become a vital hub in the evolution of traditional and modern art. Lalit Kala Academy and the Cholamandal Artists' Village are at the forefront of the city’s art movement. The Cholamandal Artists’ Village is home to many artists and sculptors featuring a permanent gallery showcasing their work. Visitors can also observe the artists working at their craft.

National Park is located in the southwestern corner of Chennai and covers an area of 270 hectares. It is the last surviving habitat of the Tropical Dry Evergreen forest type of the Coromandel coast. It includes beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams.

The Theosophical Society was founded by Annie Besant in 1875 in the US. The Society’s campus in Chennai today is the world headquarters of the Theosophical Society. The primary objective of the society was to revive Hindu culture. Abound with forests; the grounds include buildings and popular worshipping places. The campus also contains a number of residential houses, a Hindu temple, a Jain temple, a Church and a Buddhist temple. The Buddhist temple contained in the campus is one of the key attractions. There is a 95 years old library located on the premises which houses very rare oriental manuscripts. The area also has the popular 450 year old banyan tree called “Aala Maram”.
